Keynote - Practical Creativity: How to recognize it and cultivate it in your centre
Creativity. Businesses want to capture it in their employees. Educators want to foster it in their students. Schools want to inspire it in their teachers. Parents want to encourage it in their children. But how do we teach it? How do we measure it? How do we design it into an educational system that seems to discourage it at every turn? And how do we as leaders help students tap into it so they’re confident learners and problem solvers in any situation?
Join Rebecca Hare, industrial designer and educator, in a hands-on exploration of creativity. You’ll learn how to identify the five norm-referenced measures of creative thinking so that you and your faculty can teach students to consciously increase their creative problem solving skills. You’ll leave with some simple strategies that designers use to solve problems and generate innovative solutions that will empower you and your students as creators.

As a leader, you’re responsible for shaping and nurturing your school culture. One of the most effective and overlooked ways to do that is through rethinking the spaces in and around your school, from the signs out front to classrooms, from hallways to the faculty lounge. Each physical space is a manifestation of your culture and an opportunity affect it. In this interactive keynote we’ll explore practical ways to redesign your school spaces so they align with your vision. And you’ll walk away with simple, fresh ideas to shape your culture.

Workshop Session 2 - Improving the Teachability of our Students
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

There seems to be a paradigm shift in education whereby teaching at the elementary, high school and adult levels is getting harder, not easier. Despite the fact that teachers have never been more educated, technology has never been more advanced, curriculum has never been so refined and pedagogy has never been so honed; the role of the teacher is becoming increasingly difficult - How can this be? Perhaps the true problem in learning lies elsewhere – perhaps the problem lies in the diminishing teachability of our students. The gap between our students’ potential and their achievement seems to be widening. Therefore, teaching harder is not necessarily the answer; rather, enhancing teachability is.
This workshop will help provide consultants, principals and directors with new eyes to rethink traditional school organization. By having a better understanding of the ‘Science of emotion’, the ‘stages of maturation’ and the ‘power of attachment’ you can enhance the teachability of all students and optimize teaching and learning in your schools and centres.

Keynote - Connecting To The Connected: Creating a Vision of a Learner in the “Right Now” Generation - Cale Birk
Connecting To The Connected: Creating a Vision of a Learner in the “Right Now” Generation
Keynote Description: It is no secret that today’s students are different: with nearly limitless access to information and a bombardment of instant digital stimulation, understanding the “Right Now” generation of students is one thing...and teaching them is quite another! The instructional challenges that face our teachers have never been greater considering the diversity of the students in our schools. But where do we start?
While we might not know what our students need for an unpredictable future, what we do know is that statements like “We need to develop lifelong learners.” don’t really help us that much on a Wednesday in our fourth period math class. In this upbeat and fun keynote address, participants will take a trip outside of education to see what students are going to be facing and develop an understanding of how too develop an observable Vision of a Learner and the tools to turn that Vision into reality where it matters -- in the classroom with our students and educators.

Workshop Session 3 - Leading for Observable Impact
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

 Leading for Observable Impact
Session Description: As school or district leaders, each of us has a bullet point in our job description that says something like ‘be the lead learner’, yet when it comes to the day-to-day realities of being in a school, the concept of instructional leadership seems to slip farther and farther down our ever-growing ‘to do’ lists. Working with partner groups, managing budgets and human resource, implementing health and safety policies, and wiping runny noses can often take us away from where we wish we could spend more of our time--on the core work of teaching and learning! While creating structures such as embedded collaborative time can help to support the improvement of classroom practice, as leaders, how can we ensure that our actions are having the observable impact we want for our students and educators?
In this fun, interactive and hands-on workshop, participants will experience ready-to-use tools that will allow them to co-create an observable vision of a learner in their context and begin the journey of moving from vision to observable impact, the impact that is visible in our students, in our educators, and in the activities and assessments that we see in the classroom. WARNING: this session will require participants to demonstrate and model the types of skills that we want for our students and their future!
